چکیده

With the advent of small mobile internet devices (MIDs) and a rising consumer demand for multiple simultaneous transmit and receive communication links, the need for highly programmable, low-cost transceiver front-ends that co-exist with other radios on the same platform or die, has increased. For the past decade, CMOS technologies have demonstrated the ability to integrate the entire transceiver into a single silicon substrate, even for radio standards requiring the most aggressive performance [1-3]. However, concurrent trends associated with required transceiver performance in a co-existing radio environment, coupled with the low supply voltage and low-intrinsic device gain (gmro) associated with modern, nm-length CMOS devices, are presenting a new set of challenges for the analog-RF IC designer [4].

Current-mode design techniques in low-voltage 24-GHz RF CMOS receiver front-end

A new high frequency CMOS current-mode receiver front-end composed of a current-mode low noise amplifier (LNA) and a current-mode down-conversion mixer has been proposed in the frequency band of 24 GHz and fabricated in 0.13-lm 1P8M CMOS technology. The measurement of the current-mode receiver front-end exhibits a conversion gain of 11.3 dB, a noise figure (NF) of 14.2 dB, the input-referred 1-...

ISSCC 2007 / SESSION 6 / UWB and mm - WAVE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS / 6 . 3 6 . 3 A 2 . 5 nJ / b 0 . 65 V 3 - to - 5 GHz Subbanded UWB Receiver

With portable electronics and wireless sensor networks becoming increasingly pervasive, energy efficient radios have become an active area of research [1-3]. A critical figure of merit (FOM) for measuring radio efficiency in such applications is energy per bit. Though sub-nJ/b data reception is achievable for data rates >100Mb/s using optimized coherent architectures [4], there is a need for si...

3-Gb/s 60-GHz Link With SiGe BiCMOS Receiver Front-End and CMOS Mixed-Mode QPSK Demodulator

We demonstrate 3-Gb/s wireless link using a 60-GHz receiver front-end fabricated in 0.25-μm SiGe:C bipolar complementary metal oxide semiconductor (BiCMOS) and a mixed-mode quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) demodulator fabricated in 60-nm CMOS. The 60-GHz receiver consists of a low-noise amplifier and a downconversion mixer. It has the peak conversion gain of 16 dB at 62 GHz and the 3-dB int...

130 nm CMOS Mixer and VCO for 2.4 GHz Low-power Wireless Personal Area Networks

This paper describes a 2.4 GHz passive switch mixer and a 5/2.5 GHz voltage-controlled negative Gm oscillator (VCO) with an inversion-mode MOS varactor. Both circuits are implemented using a 1P8M 0.13 μm process. The switch mixer has an input referred 1 dB compression point of −3.89 dBm and a conversion gain of −0.96 dB when the local oscillator power is +2.5 dBm. The VCO consumes only 1.75 mW,...

ISSCC 2007 / SESSION 24 / MULTI - GB / s TRANSCEIVERS / 24 . 5 24 . 5 A 20 Gb / s Broadband Transmitter with Auto - Configuration Technique

The ever-growing volume of communication over backplane channels necessitates transceivers with equalization techniques. Among the existing solutions, transmit pre-emphasis manifests itself in its simplicity and accuracy. However, making it adaptive is not a trivial work due to the lack of eye-opening information from the receive side, unless a back channel or a bidirectional topology is includ...
